Cooling off with an open mouth: The crocodile lies on the bank with its mouth wide open. Crocodiles do not sweat: as cold-blooded animals, they regulate their body temperature mainly by basking in the sun, moving between sun, shade and water, and in part by opening their mouths, which can release heat.

The master builder: With its striking crest, the hamerkop looks almost like a small prehistoric bird. Its huge, roofed nest is among the largest in the bird world: it can grow up to two metres wide and high and weigh around 25 to 50 kilograms.
